About the service

We are a registered charity and our mission is to support parents, children and young adults who are struggling with their mental health and normalise these conversations. To offer a safe space for families to come together.

Hansa founded Holding Space in September 2019 after her own journey as a parent. This was a challenging and lonely journey; as a parent, it can often feel like you’re the only family going through this. You don’t know who to talk to, where to get support from. Often you feel you are not heard or being listened to. Following her personal experience Hansa wanted to reach out to other families. To know that they were not alone. That together we could support one another.

The ethos of Holding Space is to support parents and carers who are caring for a child who is struggling with their mental health; to provide a safe space for families to come together. We believe that no parent should struggle alone when caring for a child and that the voice of the parent is paramount. We will support everyone who needs it within the family.

How to access this service

Our work covers the whole of East Sussex. We work with schools, colleges, NHS providers, CAHMs, local and national organisations. Families can be referred to us directly through an organisation or they can self-refer. We are a non-registered charity and a team of volunteers who have a passion for making a difference; some of whom have lived experience of this journey.
